“The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.”

Hi, I’m Kelly Henkener, and I’m so glad you’re here. Becoming a therapist has been a deeply meaningful journey for me, and it’s a privilege to support individuals as they navigate life’s challenges and uncover paths toward healing and growth.
Who am I as a Therapist
I come to the therapy space with deep, deep gratitude for the work and for the privilege to be trusted with personal stories. I find the therapeutic relationship to be a sacred one, and I have witnessed, both in myself and others, deep and profound healing that can come from a trusting attachment. As a therapist, I lean hard into curiosity and away from being the expert of your life, as we begin to talk about what brings you in. I work primarily from an attachment-based, trauma informed lens, and incorporate other theories and modalities as appropriate for each client. If you are a client who likes to know more about my theories of focus and my orientation feel free to ask me in a consultation call! I love talking about all of that.
Before moving to private practice, I worked in a community mental health center. In that setting I worked with clients dealing with a broad scope of mental health and life challenges. Some of these are listed below… and all of them I feel confident working on with new clients.
Addictive behaviors whether to drugs, alcohol, social media, pornography, and others
Grief and loss
Complex trauma
Wounded attachments from childhood
Sexual and physical abuse
Anger and resentment
Relational issues
Depression and anxiety
Perfectionism and people pleasing
ADHD
Painful early life experiences which deeply affect present-day life
Who am I as a Person
I am a deeply feeling, sensitive person with a logically-oriented mind. I have the capacity to hold lots of feelings and relationships, both personal and professional, and have done a lot of my own work in therapy. I definitely understand what it feels like to be a client… vulnerable, scary, proud, seen, held, challenged… sometimes in one session it seems! I am energized by the dynamics of human relationships- both the complexities of these inner workings and the simplicity of what we are all really searching for. My lived experience and my own therapeutic journey are perhaps the greatest trainings of all that I pull from as a therapist. In one way or another I can relate to many stories that clients bring in.
I also do exist outside of the therapy world! I have my own complicated human relationships and messy life that I love. If you were to catch glimpses of my personal life, you might find me working out with my friend (which makes is so much better), buried under a couch blanket watching college football, or imploring members of my family to take a vacation to the mountains (I live with beach lovers). Side note: I have learned that solo trips to the mountains are also amazing. ☺
Experience & Background
Before becoming a therapist, I spent several years as a teacher, which gave me a deep understanding of how relationships, growth, and learning intersect. Later, I worked in community mental health for two years, supporting individuals from diverse backgrounds with complex challenges. These experiences have shaped my compassionate, collaborative approach to therapy.
